If you’re staying at Tenseien Odawara Station Annex, what you’ll definitely want to book as a package is the luxurious dinner at Sky Dining on the 14th floor of the shopping mall Minaka Odawara. The cityscape of Odawara City and Odawara Castle visible from the restaurant’s windows, along with Sagami Bay, grow even more beautiful from dusk as night falls.

Each item in the “Assorted Hassun Appetizers” had a well-balanced seasoning and was delicious, and as a start to the meal, it gently whetted the appetite.

Parboiled pike conger, plum cartilage, chopped wasabi, smoked scallops, quail eggs, ratatouille, salted pufferfish entrails, milt tofu topped with sea urchin, seafood main roll, kelp-cured Spanish mackerel.

The golden powder sprinkled over is dried mullet roe. All were delicious, but the “parboiled pike conger” was particularly exquisite!

Next, the “Assorted Sashimi” arrives. Three to four types of fish come out in generous portions—a satisfying amount to eat. Because Odawara is a seaside town, fresh sashimi from Odawara is one of the dishes you definitely want to try.

The main dish is marbled shabu-shabu meat. The shabu-shabu beef—tender and packed with beef umami—wrapped in black sauce (ponzu or black sesame sauce) makes for an exquisite taste.

Stepping outside from Sky Dining on the 14th floor, a free footbath sits in the terrace area overlooking the cityscape of Odawara. Soaking your feet slowly in the hot water while looking out at Sagami Bay is deeply atmospheric and feels good.

“Tenseien Odawara Station Annex” is a hotel rather than an inn, known for having many single rooms for solo travelers. However, how narrow the single room is can be surprising.

Surprisingly Narrow Single Room

For the charm-filled “Tenseien Odawara Station Annex,” one thing to be ready for on a solo trip is how narrow the single room is. The space beside the bed is about enough for one person to pass through; the front side is slightly wider, so opening a suitcase is possible, but the table (desk) is narrow, making it a tough room for telework in the hotel.

Note that because it is directly connected to the station, train sounds can be heard a little during the daytime (at night trains are not running, so there is no problem).

As for how hard or soft the bed is, preferences vary, but generally it is somewhat firm; because the pillow is low, those who want a high, firm pillow should ask at the front desk.
