KIX Lounge Premium at Kansai International Airport: My International Departure Lounge Experience

When traveling overseas, it’s convenient and relaxing to spend the wait before departure in an airline lounge. At Kansai Airport, the KIX Lounge and KIX Lounge Premium let you enjoy all-you-can-eat food and all-you-can-drink beverages (including alcohol), and pass the time comfortably in a pleasant space.

JAL withdrew from the Sakura Lounge at Kansai Airport and switched over to the KIX Lounge Premium.

At Kansai Airport International Terminal, there are two lounges: “KIX Lounge Premium” and “KIX Lounge Kansai.”

The “KIX Lounge Premium” is mainly for top-tier status members of each airline, but JAL members alone can use it from Sapphire and above, including JGC—giving them a slight edge.

Free Meal Service

The food at “KIX Lounge Premium” features items like “braised pork belly” and “chili shrimp”—dishes you always want to eat but hesitate to order because of the high prices—making for a quite delightful menu. You can’t help wanting to eat nothing but chili shrimp.

The appetizers are also stylish and delicious. Because they’re divided into small portions, being able to take just as much as you want is a nice touch too.

There are also Japanese-style appetizers. Dishes like grilled fish and sesame tofu are just right when you think “I want a little more!” after a bite-sized serving.

At “KIX Lounge Premium,” beverages (including alcohol) are all-you-can-drink. From beer, champagne, wine, and Japanese sake to coffee, you can choose and drink as much as you like—you might even end up drinking until your stomach feels full. Soft drinks are plentiful too, of course.

“KIX Lounge Premium” Has an Adult-Oriented, Chic Interior

“KIX Lounge Premium” has a chic design that feels like an adult space. There are sofa chairs where you can sit comfortably, so you can spend the wait until boarding in a relaxed way.

You Can Take a Shower Before the Flight

Since you’ll be on a flight of several hours from here, refreshing yourself with a shower is wonderful too. With only 2 shower rooms in “KIX Lounge Premium,” the key is to reserve one right after you enter the lounge.

The shower rooms offer the Japanese quality you’d expect—clean and relatively spacious. Naturally, water pressure and temperature are fine, hair dryers are fully equipped, and you can borrow a towel set before entering (OK empty-handed!).

It’s Uncrowded (Not Busy)

Because Kansai Airport International Terminal has few late-night flights and overall few passengers, “KIX Lounge Premium” is uncrowded too.

It’s a delight that you don’t have to worry about things like “there are no seats!” or “it’s crowded and noisy.”

“KIX Lounge Premium” Experience Report

February 3, 2026: “KIX Lounge Premium” During the Off-Peak Season for Overseas Travel

As you’d expect of Kansai Airport late at night in February’s off-peak season, it was empty right from the international departure floor. (There might have been more staff than passengers!). Even though it was a JAL flight, check-in was smooth with no line.

I received a fast-lane ticket for the security checkpoint, but since no one was waiting in either the fast lane or the general lane, they were the same. Still, when I went ahead and used the fast lane, it turned out to be a detour and a bit farther away…

The post-immigration area was quiet as well. Shops (eateries) and duty-free shops were open, so even without a lounge you can spend the wait enjoyably.

I entered “KIX Lounge Premium”; looking at the number of guests, there were fewer than roughly 20 people—almost empty. Seats were free to choose, and food and alcohol were all-you-can-take. My impression was that many guests were resting in a tired mode, perhaps because it was a late-night flight.

What I ate at “KIX Lounge Premium” was a light meal and champagne. That alone was delicious enough. Because I was flying Business Class this time, I kept the lounge food light knowing meals would also be served on board—but since the onboard meal came 4 hours after boarding, I had a slight regret that I should have eaten more.
