Kansai International Airport: KIX Lounge Premium Experience Report

When going on an overseas trip, it is convenient and relaxing to spend the waiting time before flight departure in an airline lounge. At Kansai Airport, there are the KIX Lounge and KIX Lounge Premium, where you can not only enjoy all-you-can-eat and all-you-can-drink food and beverages (including alcohol), but also spend your waiting time comfortably in a pleasant space.

JAL withdrew from the Sakura Lounge at Kansai Airport and transitioned to using the KIX Lounge Premium.

In this article, we introduce the KIX Lounge Premium.

The “KIX Lounge Premium” is basically used by top-tier status members of each airline, but JAL members alone can use it starting from Sapphire and above, including JGC, making it slightly advantageous.

Free Meal Service

The food at “KIX Lounge Premium” features items like “braised pork belly” and “chili shrimp”—dishes you always want to eat but are slightly hesitant to order due to high prices—making it quite a delightful menu lineup. It involuntarily makes you want to eat only chili shrimp.

Appetizers

The appetizers are also stylish and delicious. Because they are divided into small portions, being able to take just the amount you want to eat is also a nice point.

Japanese-style appetizer

There are also Japanese-style appetizers. Dishes like grilled fish and sesame tofu are just right for adding a dish when you think “I want to eat a little more!” after having a bite-sized serving.

All-you-can-drink alcohol is included.

At “KIX Lounge Premium,” beverages (including alcohol) are all-you-can-drink. From beer, champagne, wine, and Japanese sake to coffee, it is all-you-can-choose and all-you-can-drink—you might end up drinking even until your stomach feels full. Of course, soft drinks are also substantial.

“KIX Lounge Premium” is an Adult-Oriented, Chic Interior

"KIX Lounge Premium" features a chic, sophisticated interior.

“KIX Lounge Premium” has a chic design reminiscent of an adult space. There are sofa chairs where you can sit comfortably, allowing you to spend the waiting time until boarding in a relaxed manner.

You Can Take a Shower Before the Flight

Since it will be a flight of several hours from here, refreshing yourself with a shower is also wonderful. Because there are only 2 shower rooms in “KIX Lounge Premium,” the key point is to make a reservation right after entering the lounge.

Shower room

The shower rooms feature expected Japanese quality—clean and relatively spacious. Naturally, there are no issues with shower water pressure or water temperature, hair dryers are fully equipped, and a towel set can be borrowed before entering the room (OK empty-handed!).

It is Uncrowded (Not Busy)

Because there are few late-night flights at Kansai Airport International Terminal and passengers overall are few, “KIX Lounge Premium” is also uncrowded.

Not crowded / Empty

It is delightful that there are no worries such as “there are no seats!” or “it is crowded and noisy.”

“KIX Lounge Premium” Experience Report

February 3, 2026: “KIX Lounge Premium” During the Off-Peak Season for Overseas Travel

Kansai Airport international departure floor late at night during the off-season.

As expected of Kansai Airport late at night in the off-peak season of February, it was empty starting right from the international departure floor. (There might be more staff than passengers!). Although it was a JAL flight, check-in was smooth without waiting in line.

Kansai Airport Security Checkpoint

I received a fast lane utilization ticket for the security checkpoint, but because no one was waiting in either the fast lane or the general lane, both were the same. However, when I dared to use the fast lane, it was a detour and slightly further away…

The area beyond passport control is also quiet.

The post-immigration area was also in a quiet state. Shops (eateries) and duty-free shops were open, so even if you do not use a lounge, you can spend the waiting time enjoyably.

Enter the "KIX Lounge Premium"

I entered “KIX Lounge Premium”; looking at the number of customers, there were fewer than roughly 20 people—almost empty. Seating positions were free to choose, and food and alcohol were all-you-can-take. My impression was that many customers were resting in a tired mode, perhaps because it was a late-night flight.

What I ate at "KIX Lounge Premium"

What I ate at “KIX Lounge Premium” was a light meal and champagne. This alone was delicious enough. Because I was using Business Class this time, I kept the food amount small in the lounge considering meals would be served on board as well, but because the meal on board was served 4 hours after boarding, I had a small regret thinking I should have eaten more.

If you are exchanging foreign currency in Japan, use the internet.

While credit cards are used abroad, payments during a trip are still primarily made using local currency (cash). In some countries, it is more cost-effective to exchange money locally, whereas in others, you get a better rate by exchanging it in Japan. When traveling overseas, it is wise to carry an amount of cash that gives you peace of mind. If you plan to exchange currency in Japan, doing so online is recommended.
