Set in a lush, green spot inside Meiji Jingu Gaien, it has outstanding access from central Tokyo. The venue is located inside Meiji Jingu Gaien “Niko Niko Park,” 14-13 Kasumigaokamachi, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo.

The most convenient nearest stations are “Shinanomachi Station” on the JR Chuo-Sobu Line or “Kokuritsu-Kyogijo Station” on the Toei Oedo Line—both about a 5-minute walk away. Walking from the station, the venue surrounded by greenery comes into view, so you can arrive smoothly without getting lost.

It is also accessible on foot in about 10 minutes from “Aoyama-Itchome Station” on the Tokyo Metro Ginza and Hanzamon Lines, as well as the Toei Oedo Line. Being within walking distance of multiple lines and stations makes it incredibly convenient for people to gather and head home, whether for after-work drinking parties or gatherings among friends.

Exploring “Oimachi,” a Fascinating Town That Still Feels Like Old Downtown

One Stop from Shinagawa on the Keihin-Tohoku Line

“Oimachi,” just one stop from Shinagawa on the Keihin-Tohoku Line, is a super hidden gem in metropolitan Tokyo that still exudes a Showa retro feel.

Get off at the station, and you’re in a prime spot where you can watch the Keihin-Tohoku Line to your heart’s content. Does that mean anything? Oimachi Station is a bit complex, with two sets of stairs from the platform up to the ticket gates; which one you take completely changes your exit. Futuristic buildings stand side by side, and YAMADA DENKI LABI looms right in front of you in Oimachi.

The exit at Oimachi Station’s Atre-side ticket gate is huge.

I also like the downtown-side ticket gate with its Heisei-era feel; since I never remember which is which, I’ll take my chances when I exit.

A Downtown Atmosphere Full of Showa Retro Vibes

Exit at the West Exit (downtown-side ticket gate), make a U-turn toward the tracks, and slip into a small path—you’ll reach the Azuma-koji restaurant district, a back alley overflowing with Showa retro vibes that’s irresistible.

Nostalgic restaurants (small eateries) and drinking spots stand side by side, so it’s fun just to walk around—though on a stroll around 4:00 PM, the shops aren’t open yet.

Ramen shops are open even at this hour. Diner-style eateries and drinking spots are packed with good places still running at old-fashioned Showa prices; Oimachi’s restaurant district is a back alley worth visiting at least once. Walking in takes a bit of courage—but let’s take a leap of faith and go!

If you pass Azuma-koji without going in, there’s a 24-hour, year-round manga café, DiCE—so even if you miss the last train, you’re covered.

Super Public Bath “Ofuro no Osama”

If you want to enjoy Oimachi, the recommended super public bath “Ofuro no Osama” is on the Hankyu Hotel side when you exit the Atre-side ticket gate. Leave by the Central Exit (Atre-side ticket gate), and the first thing that catches your eye is the escalator to the “Rinkai Line”; if you hop on by mistake, you’ll be carried deep underground—so be careful! It’s seriously long…

Riding it the wrong way like an elementary-school kid would be a huge nuisance, so let’s not.

Once you’re safely outside, “Ofuro no Osama” is right in front of you. Guests staying at Ours Inn Hankyu can apparently use “Ofuro no Osama” too (*with plans that include a bath ticket).

Whenever I look at “Ofuro no Osama,” it always reads as “Hadaka no Osama” (The Emperor’s New Clothes) to me, but…

The indoor bath and open-air bath are spacious, the interior is spacious, and the dining area is spacious and relatively uncrowded too—so you can relax. Spending a whole day off just lounging here might be nice—total lazy-day mode. It’s a super public bath with a lot going for it.

Right next to the metropolis—just one stop from Shinagawa on the Keihin-Tohoku Line—Oimachi still holds onto a rich “downtown feel” and “Showa retro” vibe. Futuristic buildings line the front of the station, while the restaurant district just inside feels like time travel. That dual nature is the greatest pleasure of walking through Oimachi.

Oimachi is an urban oasis with a triple threat: good to live in, good to play in, and good to drink in. After shopping in a futuristic mall, having a drink in a back alley lined with red lanterns… Please visit Oimachi and enjoy that luxurious contrast. You’re sure to find a new side of Tokyo!
